About Us
As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. Health assessment thus plays an important role to provide data about one's health. At the Department of Health Assessment, we provide a variety of health assessment tests for people to identify risk factors, prevent disease progression and detect diseases in the early stage so as to lead a healthy life.

Since its inception in 1984, the Department of Health Assessment has enjoyed a reputation for quality and excellence in providing wide-ranging health assessment services in Hong Kong. Equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, the Department has a dedicated team of health care professionals, which includes doctors, nurses and technicians. It also has three registered dietitians to provide dietary and nutritional advice as necessary. Based on the health assessment results, the professional team will make recommendations on changes in lifestyle, diet and behaviour to achieve optimal health.

Health Assessment Tests
You can either select one or more assessment tests, or participate in one of the Assessment Schemes recommended for all individuals. Health advice by a professional team will be provided for all participants of Assessment Schemes.

General assessment tests
• Medical history
• Physical examination
• Laboratory investigations of blood, urine and stool samples
• Ultrasound and X-ray examinations

Specific assessment tests
• Hepatitis B antigen / antibody test
• Hepatitis B carriers follow-up package
  (including blood tests and ultrasound tests)
• Tumor markers tests (e.g. PSA, EBV DNA)
• Treadmill stress test
• MRI Cardiac perfusion scan / CT Coronary angiogram
• MRI Stroke imaging package
• Imaging examination for identifying the causes of secondary hypertension
• Breast X-Ray (Mammogram) and ultrasound
• Pap smear test

Health Advice
As an effective preventive measure, health assessment provides valuable information for the clients to make well-informed health decisions and choices. To this end, all Assessment Schemes are monitored by experienced doctors in two consultation sessions as follows:

In the first session, advice is offered based on clients' medical history and physical examination. Additional targeting tests for particular conditions/problems will be suggested where indicated.

In the second session that is normally scheduled within 10 days after the first session, the attending doctor reviews the Assessment Report with the clients and offers advice on lifestyle changes and health management where indicated.

In addition, a registered dietitian is ready to provide professional dietary advice. Referral to various specialists can be made if deemed necessary.

Weight Management
The Weight Management Programme is closely supervised by specialists in obesity and metabolism. Our multi-disciplinary team involving various dedicated healthcare professionals provides a customized and realistic programme to suit the need of the individual with weight problem. The programme starts with a baseline comprehensive health assessment of our clients, followed by appropriate and practical approaches in diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, pharmacologogical therapy, and, if necessary, surgery to manage weight problem in a safe, healthy and personalized manner.

Clinical Physiology Services
A wide range of clinical physiological tests are provided at the Department of Health Assessment, including electroencephalogram, treadmill, spirometry, lung function test and urodynamics study.
